Confessions of a Sweaty Pit
Hyperhidrosis. It’s such a clinical term for such an embarrassing condition – one that can have us running to the bathroom over and over just to make sure our deodorant’s kept the sweat at bay.
Excessive sweating is no laughing matter. And if you’re suffering from hyperhidrosis, it’s so much worse than just a few pit stains. It’s a level of sweating that’s high enough to warrant a clinical term for it.
But the good news is, with that sort of explicit definition, there’s also a community of people to help you out in your struggle – and some tips to be shared.
Try out Cotton and Use Antiperspirant
For one thing, get some breathable clothing. Sweat is just going to happen less if things don’t get too heated beneath the shirt.
But maybe an even better tip is to make sure you’re actually getting antiperspirant! So many people are under the presumption that all deodorants are antiperspirants, but it’s simply not true. Look for the word antiperspirant on the stick.
It’s at Least Partially in Your Head
Part of preventing excessive sweating is controlling nervousness. For one thing, if you’re worried about sweating you will, unfortunately, start to sweat just a little bit more. So it helps to get your mind off of it.
But if that sounds like trying not to think of a white elephant, you can also try breathing exercises to reduce anxiety. Take a deep breath in, hold it, and let it out slowly, performing this for a few repetitions. You should find yourself less nervous than earlier.
The Treatment Option
Sometimes hyperhidrosis is just a genetic condition within an individual. If that’s the case, Botox can block signals that would normally start the sweating process – and significantly reduce sweat.
