Can I Work Out After Botox
Can I Work Out After Botox, or Should I Wait?
Whether you’re an avid runner, a dedicated lifter, or you love that cardio dance class, no one wants to choose between their love of fitness and their love of Botox.
That’s probably why, “Can I work out after Botox,” is something we are asked so often in our office. We’re going to give you the inside scoop on working out after Botox. But, first thing’s first, we have to cover the basics.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox is an FDA-cleared neurotoxin protein that attaches itself to the muscle in the treatment area, restricting movement. Don’t be turned off by the word “toxin.” Botox is FDA approved and is even used to solve migraines or excessive sweating.
By immobilizing the muscle, wrinkles that were previously caused by repeated contractions and movements smooth out. Botox results can last three to four months or longer. Why aren’t the results permanent? Your body will metabolize the protein as time passes.
Can I Work Out After Botox?
While there is a lot of misinformation out there that says a regular workout routine will make the proteins in Botox metabolize quicker, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. You don’t need to abstain from your workouts for as long as you may think. The short answer to, “Can I work out after Botox,” is yes – after you’ve given yourself four to 24 hours to allow the Botox to settle.
When you work out, your heart beats faster, and your blood flow increases. This could potentially allow Botox to spread but can also result in increased bruising and swelling. To get the best results and minimize your discomfort, try to coordinate your injection day with your rest day.
