How does BOTOX® work?
Botox is a type of injectable product called a neuromodulator that temporarily suspends muscle contractions.
While Botox is often used as a wrinkle treatment, it doesn't work by adding volume within the skin like injectable fillers; instead it enables wrinkles to gradually fade as the skin is no longer creased by muscle contractions.
Effective Wrinkle Treatments
Botox is a safe, effective injectable treatment that smooths out wrinkles and gives you a more youthful, pleasant appearance. Common treatment areas include:
- Crow's feet around the eyes
- Horizontal forehead creases
- Vertical lines between the eyebrows called glabellar lines or the "11s"
We often combine Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin treatments with injectable filler treatments because they work on different types of lines and wrinkles.
Neuromodulator treatments not only smooth away facial creases, providing you with a more youthful look, but they also help to retrain your facial expressions so you won't continue to make the same creases, minimizing your need for additional maintenance treatments.
BOTOX® for the Nefertiti Lift
The Nefertiti lift is a Botox procedure that rejuvenates the jawline and neck without surgery. Injecting Botox into specific points on the jawline produces a firmer, more defined, sharper jawline. We can also minimize drooping neck skin and wrinkles by injecting Botox into the platysma muscles of the neck.
What to Expect with BOTOX® at Cultura
At your complimentary consultation, we use our expertise and years of experience to determine whether Botox injections are best suited to your unique needs and aesthetic goals. Because we make the injections with a tiny micro-needle, the associated discomfort is minimal, described by some as similar to a very small pinprick. These simple treatments require only a few minutes to complete. Afterwards, you may immediately resume your normal activities.
Botox results appear gradually within two to seven days. Initial Botox injection results usually last about four months with results lasting longer when patients receive consecutive treatments over time.
BOTOX® for Excessive Sweating
Botox is an excellent treatment for hyperhidrosis, or excessive perspiration (sweating). Excessive sweating can be effectively reduced by more than 75 percent when Botox is injected into areas of the underarms and palms of the hands. Initial Botox results for hyperhidrosis usually last between nine months and a year. Results last longer when patients receive consecutive treatments over a period of time.
BOTOX® for Chronic Migraines
Botox is approved by the FDA as a preventive treatment for chronic migraines. Botox is commonly prescribed for people who have at least 15 days each month with headaches lasting four or more hours.

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the first and only FDA-approved prescription product that temporarily improves the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and moderate to severe crow’s feet in adults.
How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?
Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It's not just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, or damage caused by free radicals. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow's feet.
BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin's surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow's feet to form over time.
Your doctor will inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause frown lines and crow's feet lines, temporarily reducing the activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.
BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks the release of a substance called acetylcholine. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe wrinkles to form.
What were common side effects seen in clinical studies?
Three percent of patients experienced eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies and 1% of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow's feet studies. Other possible side effects include: dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight and dry eyes; and allergic reactions. These are not all of the possible serious side effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic.
