The thighs are a common trouble spot for many women and men, especially following dramatic weight loss.

These individuals may avoid wearing shorts, bathing suits, and skirts to conceal excess skin, fat, and cellulite on their thighs. They are also susceptible to chafing that causes pain and interferes with daily activities.

If this is applies to you, then a thigh lift with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kelly Bolden can offer a safe and effective surgical solution.

Continue reading to learn all about a thigh lift at Cultura Plastic Surgery, including what patients can expect from the procedure and recovery.

What Is a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift is an outpatient plastic surgery procedure designed to reshape the thighs by eliminating excess skin and cellulite and tightening underlying tissue.

If localized fat deposits are also a concern, liposuction may be performed in conjunction with a thigh lift for circumferential reduction.

In addition to achieving cosmetic improvements, a thigh lift produces functional benefits. It reduces rubbing of skin and associated irritation and burning.

Lastly, a thigh lift can help women and men feel more comfortable and confident in shorts, bathing suits, and mini-skirts.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Thigh Lift?

Good candidates for a thigh lift are women and men who are healthy and at a stable weight. They are often unhappy with the size, shape, and proportions of their thighs and experience excess skin that cannot be corrected with diet and exercise.

It’s also important that patients considering a thigh lift have realistic expectations and are non-smokers. Alternatively, they should be willing to stop smoking at least four weeks before and after surgery.

How Is a Thigh Lift Performed?

A thigh lift can be completed with local anesthesia and IV sedation or general anesthesia and typically takes two-to-three hours.

For patients with excess fat deposits, liposuction may be performed prior to a thigh lift.

Once unwanted fat is extracted via liposuction if needed, incisions will be made to begin the thigh lift. Incision location and length depend on the extent of correction needed.

Typically, incisions are made at the groin and inner thigh crease for an inner thigh lift. For an outer thigh lift, an incision is created at the groin and extends around the hip.

Finally, tissue is lifted and sutured and excess skin is removed.

What Can Patients Expect from Recovery?

Following a thigh lift with Dr. Bolden, patients can expect approximately two days of bed rest. They may also experience inflammation and numbness and should take prescription pain medication as directed to alleviate discomfort.

Within one week, patients may resume normal activities. Within three weeks, they may return to work. However, if their job requires strenuous activity, they may need to wait four-to-eight weeks.

After eight-to-12 weeks, swelling should subside and reveal slimmer, toned, and well-proportioned thighs.
