We offer Chin Augmentation in Washington DC at Cultura Dermatology & Plastic Surgery Center, 5301 Wisconsin Avenue NW Washington, DC 20015.

When looking at attractiveness, the face is evaluated in its entirety, rather than isolated features.

However, it’s the proportions of our facial features that ultimately create a well-balanced and appealing look.

This is especially true when it comes to a weak or recessed chin, which can impact overall facial harmony. In these cases, a chin augmentation can offer a safe and effective surgical solution.

Continue reading to learn all about chin augmentation at Cultura Plastic Surgery with board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kelly Bolden and find out if it’s the right procedure for you.

What Is Chin Augmentation?

Chin augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to improve proportions between the chin and other features and enhance facial balance.

The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and typically takes 45-60 minutes to complete.

Why Consider Chin Augmentation?

A weak or recessed chin can distort an individual’s profile and alter the appearance of other parts of the face.

In fact, it’s not uncommon for a weak chin to make the nose appear larger and the neck appear wider--resulting in a less-refined look.

With that being said, ideal profile proportions differ for men and women. In men, the chin, philtrum, and forehead should be aligned. In women, chin projection should fall slightly behind the philtrum and forehead.

How Is Chin Augmentation Performed?

Chin augmentation is performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation. Incisions can be intraoral (made inside the mouth) or extraoral (made underneath the chin). Those that are extraoral are well-concealed and should not be visible upon healing.

Once appropriate incisions have been placed, Cultura’s board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Kelly Bolden will dissect to the mental bone, lift the mentalis muscle, and place a customized silicone implant. This process is completed with great precision to avoid damage to sensory nerves.

What Can Patients Expect from Recovery?

After undergoing chin augmentation, patients are able to return home, and they should avoid eating hot or tough food that evening.

Keeping the surgical site clean is an essential part of recovery. Patients with extraoral incisions should apply antibiotic ointment, while those with intraoral incisions must rinse with an antibacterial mouth wash two-to-three times a day.

Within two-to-three days, you can return to work. However, it may take one week before you can resume all normal activities.
