It’s April, and if your New Year’s resolutions haven’t come to fruition despite hours in the gym and all the salads you’ve eaten, you may be considering body contouring.

And, you may have heard that there’s more to body contouring than just liposuction these days.

If you’ve got stubborn areas of fat that haven’t responded to diet and exercise, you may be wondering: what is the best body contouring device out there?

CoolSculpting

As one of the most affordable options for non-surgical body contouring, CoolSculpting works by freezing fat cells. Pre-made applicators are applied to your trouble areas (usually no more than two areas) and the device adheres to the treatment areas.

The cells are cooled to a point which causes them to die in a number of weeks. The body metabolizes these cells and over time the treated areas diminish in size.

This procedure has absolutely no downtime, though it may cause some bruising. It is generally considered painless though patients may feel a cool or numbing sensation. Sometimes patients need more than one treatment in order to achieve desired results of up to two-to-three inches.

SculpSure

Unlike CoolSculptingSculpsure is a device that uses the heat of lasers to destroy fat tissue. Window-like applicators are applied to trouble spots and the laser projects heat into the tissue.

Fat is altered by the heat of the laser so that it eventually dies and is metabolized by the body over the course of a few months. This produces a reduction in fat.

While this procedure is generally considered painless, some patients do experience a burning sensation. In addition to this, patients are required to massage the area for up to one week after the procedure to ensure results of up to two-to-three inches.

Liposonix

Unlike body contouring devices that they die over the course of time, Liposonix uses High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), or soundwaves, to kill fat cells immediately.

Liposonix delivers faster results, but the intensity of the treatment can cause pain in some patients. The procedure can be up to ten degrees hotter than SculpSure, so discomfort definitely needs to be considered. The procedure can yield a loss of up to two-to-three inches.

UltraShape

One of the most expensive body contouring devices, UltraShape uses HIFU technology like Liposonix. These destroyed fat cells, in the form of triglycerides, are metabolized by the liver.

While the results may be quicker than some other body contouring devices, UltraShape often requires two-to-three treatments in a couple of weeks in order to achieve desired results of a reduction in up to four inches.

This can be expensive. And, as with other devices using HIFU, some heat-related discomfort has been reported by patients.

Vanquish

This body contouring device uses radio frequencies to melt the fat in trouble areas, and it’s particularly suited to the abdomen.

Multiple treatments (usually four-to-six) are required for subtle results, so this can be a drawback for some. While some experience heat-related discomfort, most do not consider it painful.

I-Lipo

This device uses lasers combined with post-procedure massage to melt away trouble fat. This device is suited to those who maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

While the procedure takes under 40 minutes to treat, four-to-six treatments are recommended for desired results.

The multi-treatment requirement can make I-Lipo and Vanquish some of the pricier options to see results of a reduction in one-to-two inches in the abdomen area.

Velashape

This body contouring device combines suction, radio frequencies, and ultrasound waves to blast away fat. This procedure can also reduce the appearance of cellulite in the treatment area.

Velashape requires several treatments, from four-to-six, which is a significant time commitment. Patients consider it painless. Often a reduction of one-to-two inches is observed.

So, What Body Contouring Device is Considered the Best?

Those curious about body contouring devices need to consider their trouble area, budget, and ability to tolerate discomfort.

Furthermore, some devices require a significant commitment to see results, whereas others, such as CoolSculpting, can be done once with a good result.

For those with busy schedules, these zero-downtime options can make achieving aesthetic goals possible.
