The Best Laser Hair Removal Guide for Women of Color
It’s important for any patient considering laser hair removal to thoroughly research the treatment, types of technology, provider expertise, and expected results.
This is especially true for women of color, who are more likely to experience burns and skin discoloration in the hands of an inexperienced or unqualified practitioner.
Cultura’s team of seasoned dermatology professionals, led by board-certified dermatologist Dr. Eliot Battle, has extensive experience treating skin of color.
We will skillfully assess your concerns and develop a customized treatment plan to help you eliminate unwanted hair and attain smooth and healthy skin.

Know Your Laser Options
Cultura is proud to offer our patients the latest in laser hair removal technology to provide the safest and most effective treatment options.
With that being said, many women of color achieve optimal clinical outcomes with a YAG 1064 laser treatment.
That’s because this device is designed to precisely target pigment in hair follicles, without harming surrounding tissue and structures.
Accordingly, YAG laser hair removal protects skin from burns and other side effects, while also delivering sufficient energy to achieve desired effects.
Expect That Results Aren’t 100 Percent Permanent
While laser hair removal results are much longer-lasting than those of shaving or waxing, they do not provide complete removal or permanency.
This means that after undergoing a successful course of treatments (often six sessions, scheduled six-to-eight weeks apart), patients can expect up to a 90-95 percent reduction.
Some light regrowth is also possible.
Properly Prepare for Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment
Patients of all skin tones, including women of color, should avoid tanning prior to laser hair removal and wait until their tan (from sun exposure or artificial) completely fades before returning for treatment.
Keep in mind that you will also need to forgo sun exposure for at least two weeks following laser hair removal.
Additionally, take care not to wax or pluck the targeted area for two-to-four weeks before your appointment, as these techniques remove hair with the follicle intact.
Failure to do so, could mean that there won’t be anything for the laser to target during your treatment.
