Laser Hair Removal Complications
Most women and men who undergo laser hair removal are thoroughly impressed with the treatment’s speed, safety, and efficacy.
However, there are rare instances, often in the hands of an inexperienced or unqualified provider, that patients encounter laser hair removal complications.
While most laser hair removal side effects are mild and self-limiting, there are a few issues that can be more serious.
Continue reading to learn about laser hair removal complications, and why it’s essential to see a knowledgeable and certified laser specialist.
Possible Laser Hair Removal Complications
Laser hair removal is an extremely safe and effective treatment when performed by a qualified and experienced provider.
With that being said, patients should be aware of possible laser hair removal complications before proceeding with treatment. In most cases, these side effects are mild and resolve on their own.
Redness and Irritation
This is probably the most common after-effect of laser hair removal. Skim may look and feel like a mild sunburn and present with erythema, slight swelling, and tingling in the treated area.
The good news is that inflammation should subside in a few hours, without causing any disruption to your day or normal activities.
Changes in Skin Color
Following a laser hair removal treatment, there is a slight possibility of pigmentary changes to the skin.
These can include darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation) or lightening of the skin (hypopigmentation).
Fortunately, any associated discoloration is often temporary and will gradually fade away.
Eye Injury
At the beginning of every LHR session, ensure that you are wearing protective eyewear, provided by your practitioner.
Failure to use laser goggles could increase your risk of an eye injury.
Rare Laser Hair Removal Side Effects
While more serious laser hair removal complications don’t occur very frequently, it is important to be informed of any and all possible risks.
These rare LHR adverse events can include burns, blisters, and scarring.
Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?
By all accounts, laser hair removal is very well-tolerated and has an excellent safety profile.
It’s also worth noting that there isn’t any evidence that laser hair removal causes cancer or infertility.
