Laser hair removal (LHR) can be a gal’s, or guy’s, best friend for smooth, hair-free skin. It’s no surprise that so many people are ditching their razors.

But, with all of the LHR hype and its continued popularity, it’s natural to have a lot of questions. We’re addressing one of the most searched questions out there: “Is laser hair removal permanent, or will my hair regrow?” First, we have to review the basics.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

In a laser hair removal treatment, light from a laser is absorbed by the darker pigment in your hair, known as melanin. This process creates heat that damages your hair follicles, which stunts your hair growth.

The treatment is relatively painless, with most describing the feeling as more irritating rather than painful. LHR is completely safe for people of all skin colors, and it can be done in less than an hour for most treatment areas.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

It may be hard to believe, especially for daily shavers, but only 25% to 35% of your hair grows at a time. That said, multiple treatments are necessary to get all of the hair during the differing growth cycles. The number of treatments depends on the person, but typically eight treatments will usually do the trick.

As you continue your treatments, you’ll notice that the hair will come in thinner and thinner. This means that different lasers will need to be used to effectively remove the remaining hair.
