At Cultura Dermatology & Plastic Surgery, we specialize in the evaluation and removal of moles. We perform both non-surgical mole removal with lasers and hyfrecators and surgical mole excision, offering our patients both peace of mind and clear, healthy skin. Many of the smaller facial moles we see on our face, neck, and chest are called Dermatosis Papulosis Nigra (DPN) and can be safely removed in one treatment. These types of moles are removed using a hyfrecator (an electrical cautery with a small needle tip) and most are removed in one treatment. DPNs have their own blood supply and the heat transferred from the hyfrecator to the mole coagulates (clogs) up the blood vessel and the mole loses its blood supply and supply of nutrients. The mole loses all nutrients, shrivels up, and falls off within weeks, leaving no scars or semblance of a mole ever being there.
Larger, individual moles, or nevi, are common skin growths and may appear anywhere on the body, often manifesting as dark spots or raised blemishes. These moles can be removed with lasers or surgical excision. Despite most moles being harmless, some may seek removal based on cosmetic preferences or some may be cancerous and require to be removed due to life threatening medical reasons. With our commitment to safety and beauty, we make sure every mole removal procedure is conducted with the highest level of care, after an appropriate diagnosis is made. If the mole is suspicious, Cultura will request you see a general dermatologist to have your mole biopsied to ensure it is non-cancerous, prior to removing it.
